Anil Bawa-Cavia (Rev #1)
I’m carrying out doctoral research into urban spatial systems at the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at University College London. CASA is an off-shoot of the Bartlett school of Architecture.
My supervisors are Shi Zhou, who specialises in network science, and Mike Batty, whose many computer models have explored urban form and dynamics on various scales. Mike’s work is summarised in his MIT Press publication, Cities & Complexity, a worthwhile read for anyone interested in software and cities.
Before my PhD I worked as part of the startup team at Last.fm - an online social music platform based in the UK. I developed web software for them for over 3 years. Last.fm used principles of emergence, network intelligence, collaborative filtering and Big Data to map all the music on the planet.
In 2004 I studied computing at Imperial College, London. My dissertation was on Social Software.
I live in Hackney, London. I like it here.
You can reach me via electronic mail, [email protected].
