Anil Bawa-Cavia (Rev #4)

I’m carrying out doctoral research into urban spatial systems at the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at University College London. CASA is an off-shoot of the Bartlett school of Architecture.

My supervisors are Shi Zhou, who specialises in network science, and Mike Batty, whose work is summarised in Cities & Complexity (MIT Press), a worthwhile read for anyone interested in software and cities.

Before my PhD I worked as part of the startup team at Last.fm - an online social music platform based in the UK. I developed web software for them for over 3 years. Last.fm used principles of emergence, network intelligence, collaborative filtering and Big Data to map all the music on the planet.

In 2004 I studied computing at Imperial College, London. My dissertation was on Social Software.

I live in Hackney, London. I like it here.

My personal blog is located at quotesque.net. You can reach me via electronic mail, [email protected].
